Job Seekers’ Bill of Rights

Tired of Getting No Response to Your Resume?

Virtually every one of the tens of millions of unemployed Americans will tell you that one of the greatest impediments to finding a job in today’s economy is the lack of response from employers regarding resumes and job applications submitted by job seekers.  A job seeker today may send out hundreds of resumes and job applications in response to employers’ job postings without receiving feedback of any kind from such employers.  This lack of response robs the unemployed of crucial information needed to make life-changing decisions about how and where to conduct a successful job search.  This lack of feedback also crushes the confidence of many job seekers, worsening the harmful psychological impact of unemployment.  The economic inefficiency resulting from this dysfunctional process creates a drag on our nation’s economy and perpetuates dependency on unemployment benefits and other government aid.

We hear it from our clients all the time….”It is not fair that we never hear anything back from our resumes”….”Why do they ask us to apply for their jobs if they are not going to let us know anything?”

Ask your President, your Senators, your Representatives and your Governor to support a simple “Job Seekers’ Bill of Rights that would require an employer:

1.       To acknowledge receipt of a resume or other job application submitted in response to an advertisement or other job posting by such employer; and

2.       To notify a job seeker within 30 days after a decision has been made by the employer regarding such job seeker’s solicited resume or job application.

We are writing elected officials across the nation and following up to ensure that your voices are heard. Help us help you…it is time for you to make a difference on this issue:

I am writing to ask you to please support legislation creating a simple “Job Seekers’ Bill of Rights that would require an employer:

1.       To acknowledge receipt of a resume or other job application submitted in response to an advertisement or other job posting by such employer; and

2.       To notify a job seeker within 30 days after a decision has been made by the employer regarding such job seeker’s solicited resume or job application.

If necessary, this Job Seekers’ Bill of Rights could be limited to employers with a certain minimum number of employees (for example, 10 or more employees).

Readily-available software and other Human Resource tools exist to aid implementation of these notification requirements.  As a matter of fact, some employers (such as First Citizens Bank) already do an excellent job of providing such notifications.  Unfortunately, the vast majority of employers create a one-sided process that leaves solicited job seekers completely in the dark.

Help job seekers help themselves.  This is job stimulus with little cost to the taxpayer or employers.  Please support  this legislation.  Thank you.
